Can a complete beginner join?

Yes. BFA classes are designed for beginners as well as experienced fencers, and the current class program allows students to start anytime.

What ages does BFA teach?

Programs begin with Super Youth for ages 5–7, continue with youth foil for ages 8–12, and include teen/adult épée for ages 13 and up. Levite JCC classes serve youth ages 8–12 as well as teens and adults.

Do I need to buy equipment before my first lesson?

No. Equipment is provided for new fencers for their first lesson. Personal equipment is expected once a fencer enters the Competitive Foil program.

What weapons are taught?

BFA currently teaches foil and épée. Hoover youth beginner and competitive programs focus on foil, while the teen/adult and Levite JCC programs focus on épée.

How much is the trial lesson?

The onboarding trial lesson is $45. Use the Book a Trial button to reserve through BFA's Zen Planner registration system.

How does the beginner youth intro package work?

Accepted Answer

The current youth intro package includes one month, four group classes, and four private lessons. At least one private lesson is completed before group class attendance.
