# Birmingham Fencing Academy

> Birmingham Fencing Academy (BFA) teaches beginner through competitive Olympic-style fencing in Hoover and Birmingham, Alabama. BFA offers foil and épée instruction for ages 5 through adult, provides equipment for a new fencer's first lesson, and supports recreational, competitive, and college fencers.

## Current program facts

- Super Youth Fencing: ages 5–7, movement and fencing fundamentals, Friday 5:00–5:50 PM at the Hoover Academy.
- Beginner and Intermediate Youth Foil: ages 8–12, Monday and Wednesday 5:00–6:30 PM at the Hoover Academy.
- Teen and Adult Épée: ages 13 and older, Monday and Wednesday 6:30–8:30 PM at the Hoover Academy.
- Competitive Foil: experienced fencers, Tuesday and Thursday 5:00–7:00 PM at the Hoover Academy.
- Levite JCC Épée: Tuesday and Thursday at 3960 Montclair Rd in Birmingham. Youth ages 8–12 meet 3:45–5:00 PM; ages 13 and older meet 5:15–7:00 PM.
- College Athlete Support: BFA offers current local and national college fencers an $80-per-month Open Bouting Membership plus member-rate training. BFA supports college athletes but does not operate a college team or collegiate program.

## Open bouting

- Monday and Wednesday: 7:30–9:30 PM.
- Tuesday and Thursday: 7:00–9:30 PM.
- Friday: 5:00–9:00 PM.
- Saturday: 10:00 AM–3:00 PM.
