classes, tournaments, and private lessons

To help you progress, we have added two more items:

open bouting and conditioning

For those whom have never fenced

Monthly Free Fencing CLass

This event is perfect for you if you've never tried fencing before! Each class is the first Saturday of each month from 10:00AM-11:00AM.

We'll start with a brief description of the sport and gear. Next, you'll learn fencing basics of how we move, and then everyone will put on fencing gear and give it a try for about 30 minutes. You'll definitely have the most eventful weekend among your friends (you could also bring them along)!

Helpful Tips – We ask that you wear some type of athletic or tennis shoes (no sandals please). Remember that it’s an active sport, so wear a t-shirt or something else that will be relatively cool.

The beginner program (starting in September, November, January, or March) will introduce students to the basics of the sport of fencing, specifically foil.

This 8-week program starts with 4 private lessons (one 15-minute private lesson per week).  The purpose of these private lessons is to set a solid foundation for students by teaching them basic actions as well as proper footwork. After 4 lessons, new fencers will join the Beginning Foil Class for 4 weeks of fencing games, physical training, additional skills, and most importantly, bouting! Equipment is included during the 8-week program.

Beginner Teen/Adult Class

ages 13+  •  Epee

We created an epee class for teenagers and adults because they think and learn in a different way than children. We focus on building technique, developing skills, and creating personal strategies for each fencer. Some days you might leave completely exhausted while gaining endurance, and other days you might leave with new skills or competitive strategies. Either way, our goal is that each class, you leave a better fencer than when you walked in.

Note: the last 30 minutes is open bouting. All skill levels are invited and encouraged to take advantage of this time.

Open Bouting Times

My message is, you can accomplish anything, not just on the athletic field, if you're willing to work and pay the price. It doesn't matter what your age. - Herschel Walker

what summer is complete without fencing?

Summer CAMPS

Beginning Level Summer Camps

Our Summer Camps introduce students to the basics of fencing. You have lots of choices, selecting activities for your children, and we offer a unique opportunity. The sport of fencing is gaining popularity. Fencers like Miles Chamley Watson and the Men’s Olympic Foil Fencing Team have generated a lot of excitement. Right here in Birmingham, we have two coaches who bring their experience as the coach of an olympic fencing team and as an olympic fencer. Both were also Chinese national champion fencers. Our other coaches also have decades of experience, skill, and love of the sport.

Beginning with warm-up activities each day, classes cover footwork, handwork, rules and strategy. We provide all the fencing equipment. Your instructor for the summer camps, Yuanjing Wang, led the Chinese National Fencing Team as head coach and is an internationally recognized referee.

Who are the beginner summer camps right for?
