New Adult / Teen Class

The first class will begin on Saturday, September 1 at 10:30am.  Here are the details:

Requirements

The Class is designed for men and women ages 13 and higher.  There will be some exceptions made on a case by case basis.  There are no physical prerequisites.  Fencing is a sport that demands more from you physically as you learn.
You will need a class form and a U.S. Fencing Association form completed .

Meeting Times

Class will meet on Monday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30; and on Saturdays from 10:30am – noon.  Since Mondays are often used for holidays, we will likely hold classes on those days except when notice is given beforehand.

Equipment

We will be fencing epee.  We had many discussions about which weapon would be best.  The decision was based on the fact that epee rules are less complicated; the equipment is somewhat less expensive and easier to repair when needed; both of the instructors are proficient in epee; and there are some good epee-only clubs in Alabama and neighboring states.

Equipment Costs

We felt that our students would prefer to own certain parts of their equipment.  The Club will provide jackets and plastrons (under-jackets).  To assist with the cost, the Club will waive your first month fee.  We have negotiated a cost of $130 for a mask, epee, electronic body cord, glove, and fencing bag.

Class Fees

As noted above, the first month will be free.  The fee for months two and three will be a total of $140 ($70 each month), and $85 thereafter.  Regular class discounts for prepayment and multiple family members apply.  U.S. Fencing Association basic membership will also be required but the fee is only $5 annually, and can be upgraded to a competitive membership.

After three months, regular monthly class fees of $85 apply, and student will need to purchase the remaining equipment.

You will be starting this class and will play an important part in how it develops.  We will also have some incentives for bringing in new students.
This is an exciting time to start fencing and we look forward to you being part of the Birmingham Fencing Club!
